This film tracks a collection of anti-heroes assembled by the government for a covert and perilous mission. Made up of reformed villains and flawed antiheroes (Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes and U.S. Agent), the team gets the jobs that other people don’t want to do. Reluctantly, they each accept, each hoping for redemption or reward.
But, as it turns out, things get out of hand fast. What starts as a covert operation becomes a life-or-death setup that leaves the team fighting for survival on enemy soil. The betrayal is severe, and soon the secrets they’re carrying refuse to stay buried, and each of them must confront the ghosts of their past. Their mission is no longer only about survival, but also about coming to terms with who they have become.
As the Thunderbolts confront deadly, questionable alliances as well as internal tensions, the arc begs: How much trust, loyalty and second chances can a group of reformed villains ultimately enjoy? They are forced to choose between duty and self-preservation when they lose everything they have been protecting.
